This is the Chinese live movie version of the famous Disney movie of the same title, Mulan (1998). A noticeable difference between the two is that the former stripped the plot of its seemingly romantic elements but without depriving the audience of the feeling between the two main characters. With this movie, lessons of patriotic love, brotherhood and filial piety became the focal point. Also, the cinematic portrayal of the war holds true to the authentic Chinese way of movie-making.
